No. 4 Trinity Defeat No. 5 Bulldogs 7-2 - Yale Bulldogs

February 15, 2013

NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? ?Friday, the No. 5-ranked women's squash team fell 7-2 at the hands of No. 4 Trinity in the first round of the CSA Team Championships. The Bulldogs will play No. 8 Brown in the consolation bracket, while the Bantams will advance to the semifinals, where they will face No. 1 Princeton.

Without their usual No. 2, junior Kim Hay, the Bulldogs put up a strong fight against Trinity, taking eight of the nine matches to four or more games.

Unfortunately, that would not be enough for the Bulldogs.? Saturday, Yale will face Brown in the consolation semifinals.? Yale topped the Bears when they matched up on Feb. 6, by a score of 9-0.? The Bulldogs will be short their No. 2 Hay, but should still have more than enough to advance to the consolation finals.?

The standout result for the Bulldogs came at No. 1, where junior Millie Tomlinson topped Trinity freshman Kanzy El Defrawy in four games.? The freshman had previously lost only one match, to Harvard's Amanda Sobhy.? Yale also garnered a victory at No. 3, where sophomore Shihui Mao knocked off Wee Nee Low 6-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-3.? Unfortunately, the rest of the Bulldogs would come up short.

The consolation semifinals will be played Saturday at 1:30, with the winner of the Yale-Brown matchup facing either Cornell or Stanford in the consolation finals.? Yale beat both teams in the regular season.
