DAKAR, Senegal (AP) ? A local reporter for The Associated Press in Gambia was released by security officials on Monday, after being detained by the country's intelligence service for more than 24 hours, the journalist and his colleagues said.
Gambian journalist Abdoulie John is the editor of the website Joloff News, and a contributor to AP. On Sunday, he was covering the release of Senegalese soldiers held by a rebel group in Senegal's southern Casamance region.
He said he was put in a military truck after the Gambian president's photographer questioned his presence, and an altercation ensued. John said he was locked in a room at the National Intelligence Agency in Gambia's capital. He was released Monday around 5 p.m.
