The company has advertised 450 vacancies for flight attendant positions.
In its biggest hiring push since 2010, US Airways said it received more than 16,500 applications for the 450 jobs.
Around 700 people were chosen to advanced to the interview stage.
Offers have already been made for work, with the first batch of new employees already in training.
Some of those have special language skills.
US Airways has been looking to hire speakers of Hebrew or Portuguese to work on its flights to Tel Aviv and Rio de Janeiro.
The US unemployment rate held at 7.8 percent in December after the November figure was revised up from a previously reported 7.7 percent.
Airline executives have been pushing the desirability of flight attendant jobs in a market which is still very tight.
