Walker up to No. 2 in power rankings

Boerne's Jimmy Walker ranks No. 2 in this week's power rankings on PGATour.com for the Northern Trust Open, with good reason.

As the site points out, Walker is the ?hottest non-winner on the PGA Tour,? including two top-four finishes in his past three starts. His tie for third at Pebble Beach on Sunday, which matched a career high, moved him to No. 9 on this season's money list at $713,620.

Walker, 33, has reason to be confident when action begins Thursday. He has tied for fourth at Riviera Country Club each of the past two years, and now ranks fifth in all-around play on the tour.

Back on course: San Antonio's Cameron Beckman also is in the field for this week's Northern Trust Open.

Beckman, who made it through a Monday qualifier, played a practice round with Fred Couples on Tuesday.

Ex-Clark player Martin Flores, who now lives in the Dallas area, also is at Riviera. Flores has made the cut in two of four events this season.

Aiming south: San Antonio-area players Will Griffin and K.C. Lim are part of a 126-man field in action at this week's second and final qualifying tournament for the PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Play began Tuesday and runs through Friday at Sun 'N Lake Golf Club in Sebring, Fla.

The field, which includes 51 international competitors, will decide 20 spots for this year's Latinoamerica schedule. There will be 15 tourneys with $150,000 purses in nine countries, beginning in March.

Earlier this month, Griffin was third at the Woodlands Open on the Adams Golf Pro Tour Winter Series. San Antonio's John Kimbell is currently seventh on that tour's money list with $7,667 earned.

Fitting award: The staff at San Antonio Country Club has been named the 2012 Ping Regional Club Fitter of the Year, Ping has announced. The company recognized the SACC staff ?for its commitment to helping golfers of all abilities improve their games through custom fitting.?

Filled up: A full field of more than 80 players will take part in this week's second annual Spring Regional at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. The tournament, which runs Saturday and Sunday, kicks off the 2013 amateur schedule for Golf San Antonio.
